Coalition Urges Legislators to Protect Public Channels in Illinois Cable Law

April 3, 2013

Members of the Keep Us Connected Coalition are urging the Illinois Legislature to protect public, education and government (PEG) access channels in the 2013 renewal of the Illinois Cable and Video Competition Act of 2007 (“the Cable Act”).

Since passage of that law, AT&T has refused to follow key provisions that would result in equitable treatment of PEG access channels.

The Illinois Cable Television Association is circulating changes to the Cable Act that would wreak havoc on PEG access channels by restricting funding and threatening a shut down of channels used for health, education, public safety, and jobs information.

The Keep Us Connected Coalition urges Illinois legislators to:

JUST SAY NO
to any attempts to erode or eliminate protections for public, education and government access channels in the Cable and Video Competition Act of 2007.
